TAMPA, FL - The Dr. Wendell Bulmer Scholarship for Medical Students is now accepting applications for its inaugural $1,000 award, designed to support aspiring physicians who embody the principles of whole-person care. This annual scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Wendell Bulmer, D.O., a respected orthopedic surgeon and educator whose career has shaped Florida’s medical landscape.

Created to reflect Dr. Wendell Bulmer’s lifelong dedication to osteopathic medicine and mentorship, the scholarship recognizes undergraduate students pursuing careers in healthcare who demonstrate both academic excellence and a deep commitment to patient-centered care.
“Medical education demands not only intellectual rigor but financial resilience,” said a representative from the Scholarship Selection Committee. “Dr. Wendell Bulmer’s legacy is rooted in service, leadership, and holistic healing. Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled in a pre-medical or science-related undergraduate program at an accredited institution. The scholarship is merit-based and awarded through a competitive essay submission.
Essay Prompt & Submission Details
Students are invited to submit a 500–750 word original essay responding to the following prompt:
“Osteopathic medicine emphasizes a whole-person approach to treatment. Describe a personal experience or core belief that has shaped your desire to become a physician who cares for the patient, not just the illness. How will this philosophy guide your future practice?”
All entries must be submitted electronically to apply@drwendellbulmerscholarship.com by June 15, 2026. The winning essay will be selected based on clarity, originality, and depth of insight, with the recipient announced on July 15, 2026.
About Dr. Wendell Bulmer
Dr. Wendell Bulmer is a graduate of the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine and has served in key leadership roles, including Chief of Staff at Tampa Community Hospital. He currently practices at Westchase Orthopedics and teaches as an Associate Professor at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), mentoring the next generation of medical professionals.
