Well-known Toy Historian Jack Little's massive toy collection is up for sale posthumously. One
of Australia's most extensive antique and vintage toy collections will be on auction at ALLBIDS
online from Thursday 22nd of April at www.allbids.com.au/t/jack-little-toy-collection The
auction will be open to the most significant number of toy enthusiasts across Australia.
Facilitated by ALLBIDS, Jack Little's collection will be auctioned online over the next few
months and categorised by type. The first session will include a highly unique assortment of
model yachts and pond boats that Jack collected over the years. Auctions for toy trains, toy cars, toy trucks, and machinery will happen in months to follow. Jack's toy collection was sourced from all over the world. Many of these unique toys are so rare; they seldom come on the market, especially in such quantity, quality, and on a single platform.
One of Australia's most prolific toy collectors, Jack Little, had built his collection over six
decades. A passion born from being a child in the middle of the Great Depression. Jack had little to no access to toys and games, so he spent the rest of his life, collecting them--trying to fulfill his childhood dream. He travelled far and wide and returned with sacks of rare toys to fill his modest Melbourne home, some more than 100 years old.
"I didn't have toys when I was a kid. We didn't have any money. So I'm making up for it." Jack
said in an interview with the ABC in 2015.
The Jack Little's toy collection numbered well over 2000 toys ranging from Australian pressed
metal toys, model trains of all ages, all scales and gauges, model yachts, Meccano and it's
Australian counterparts Ezi-Bilt, Victory, and others. A large portion of Jacks Collection was
focused on Australian Toys made during the war years.
"I suppose that I am a toy Historian. I have spent hours and hours in libraries in Sydney and
Queensland, and South Australia researching. As far as toys go, I guess my house is like a
Museum. People could spend hours in here." Jack quoted.
Jack Little died at the age of 99, leaving behind a treasure worth more than $100,000, with a few individual items worth as much as $3000.
