World’s Top Auction Houses to Convene in Boston to Explore Industry’s Online Future amid Rapid Business Transformation

Representatives from the world’s top auction houses will gather in Boston in September for the first-ever Global Auction House Summit, presented by Invaluable, to examine the industry’s rapidly-evolving online future.

The invitation-only event, themed “Global Technology Trends: Driving the Auction Industry Forward,” will be held at The Boston Park Plaza Hotel from Sept. 6-8 and will include panels and keynotes led by CEOs, industry experts and key influencers from across the art, auction and ecommerce industries. Topics to be discussed as part of the Summit include the globalization of the art world, the shifting nature of selling estates, the next generation of auction buyers, art law in the digital age, data and transparency, building an online brand, and more.

“The auction industry is evolving rapidly as more business shifts to online and mobile channels. The evolution is not coming – it’s here now,” said Rob Weisberg, CEO of Invaluable, the world’s leading online marketplace for fine art, antiques and collectibles.

According to the 2017 Hiscox Online Art Trade Report, online art market sales reached an estimated $3.75 billion in 2016. The report estimates the online art market to be worth $9.14 billion by 2021 – representing a 144% increase in online hammer in just five years’ time.

“The goal of the Summit is to bring industry leaders together under one roof to discuss common challenges and explore solutions in an effort to propel the industry forward, especially as we think about how things will continue to evolve five, 10 or 15 years into the future,” Weisberg added.
