Clark Nexsen Announces Firmwide Principal Promotions

Feb. 26, 2016 - PRLog -- National architecture and engineering firm, Clark Nexsen, is pleased to announce that Paul Battaglia, Richard Fort, Jason Jones, Shann Rushing, and Janet Webster have been promoted to principal. These leadership promotions represent dedication, expertise, and growth within the firm.

Paul Battaglia, AIA is a designer with 20 years of experience in architecture, working as both a practitioner and an educator. He has experience with programming, project management, design and construction administration in federal Department of Defense, corporate, and higher education projects. As the head of the Virginia Beach architectural department, he collaborates with clients and project teams to provide innovative design solutions. He previously taught architectural design at Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture and at NC State University’s College of Design and held adjunct appointments at Virginia Commonwealth University and Hampton University.

Richard Fort, AIA, LEED AP has successfully led business development for Clark Nexsen from the Asheville office for almost 20 years, pursuing work which fulfills Clark Nexsen’s vision and design aspirations. Through development of community and regional relationships, Richard has been instrumental to the firm’s success and growth. As a design leader, Richard’s experience includes educational, cultural, retail, urban mixed-use development, housing, and campus master planning. Active in Asheville, he currently serves on the City of Asheville Board of Adjustment, the board of directors of the YMI Cultural Center, and the Pack Place board of directors.

Jason Jones, AIA is a designer with more than 23 years of diverse experience, including the design and management of K-12, higher education, mixed-use residential, and cultural arts projects. He has partnered with numerous colleges and universities, including the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Penn State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the North Carolina A&T State University. Jason believes a comprehensive understanding of the needs of building users leads to the development of innovative solutions.

Jason was promoted from architectural department head to director of Clark Nexsen’s office in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2015, and most recently to principal. He excels at nurturing client relationships while ensuring design continuity and project delivery. Jason presents frequently on higher education facilities to the Association of College and University Housing Officers (ACUHO-I), the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), and other professional organizations

Shann Rushing, AIA, LEED AP has focused his career on the design, management, and construction of higher education and civic projects. His design leadership has been instrumental in creating places that reflect and advance the mission and identity of those institutions. Shann served as senior design architect for NC State University’s James B. Hunt Jr. Library, in collaboration with Snøhetta. Called “the library of the future” by Time magazine, Hunt Library created a transformative environment for collaborative learning and integrated technology. His previous experience includes the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, the first LEED Gold building within the University of Maryland system, as well as the recently completed Eden’s Quad and East Union projects at Duke University.

His projects have garnered recognition for design, innovation, and sustainability from the American Institute of Architects, Architizer, the Urban Land Institute and the U.S. Green Building Council. Shann is engaged in conversations about collaboration and integrated design through presentations to organizations such as SCUP, AIA, and the USGBC.

Janet Webster, PE has more than two decades of experience in structural design and project management for a wide variety of public and private sector clients in the U.S. and overseas. As a senior project manager, she combines her engineering expertise with business and management skills to lead multidisciplinary teams on complex projects. Janet has been instrumental in developing expanded services and new growth opportunities within the firm’s rapidly growing wireless communications sector.

Janet is a passionate advocate and mentor for women who are developing engineering or other STEM careers. She has served on the Virginia Structural Engineer’s Council as a board member, including two years as chairman. She is active with the American Council of Engineering Companies and is a 2012 graduate of their Emerging Leaders Institute. She is an Old Dominion University graduate and currently serves on the ODU Alumni Association board of directors.
