More than 300 American Water Employees Lend a Helping Hand in Southern New Jersey Communities

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, held its annual companywide AmerICANs in Action! employee volunteer event in September. More than 300 American Water employees located in southern New Jersey participated in 23 different community volunteer projects. Nationwide, more than 2,000 American Water employees participated in 113 different community volunteer projects representing American Water operations in 16 states and Canada.

AmerICANs in Action! continues the company’s efforts to create a lasting, positive impact for the customers and the communities the company serves as part of its ongoing Corporate Responsibility program. The effort encourages teams of employees to volunteer in the communities where they live and work. In its fifth year, this year’s event set a record for participation and results.

Employees from American Water, New Jersey American Water and American Water Enterprises located in the southern New Jersey region demonstrated a diverse range of skills through many projects as follows:

  • Conducted a cleanup along the Delaware River in Delran.
  • Performed general maintenance of trails at the Black Run Preserve in Marlton.
  • Prepared and delivered lunches to the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden.
  • Served breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden.
  • Participated in an ecological restoration/tree planting project at Revered Evers Park in Camden.
  • Planted 11 new trees and 20 new shrubs at the Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy in Camden.
  • Read to children at the Centerville Head Start Center in Camden.
  • Purchased, prepared and distributed food with Rising Leaders to people in the city of Camden.
  • Helped load/unload trucks, organize products, and priced and cleaned donated goods at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore in Maple Shade.
  • Volunteered at the Almost Home Animal Shelter in Pennsauken.
  • Volunteered at the Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken.
  • Participated in a cleanup at Cooper River Park in Collingswood.
  • Cleaned, organized and landscaped at the Eastwood Group Home in Voorhees.
  • Hosted Senior Citizen Bingo at Brookedale in Voorhees.
  • Volunteered at the Voorhees Animal Shelter.
  • Participated in a cleanup at the Winslow Township Fish and Game Wildlife Management Area in Winslow Twp.
