More than 2,000 American Water Employees Volunteer 5,500 Hours During Companywide Month of Service

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, held its companywide AmerICANs in Action! employee volunteer event in September. More than 2,000 American Water employees participated in 113 different community volunteer projects representing American Water operations in 16 states and Canada.

AmerICANs in Action! continues the company’s efforts to create a lasting, positive impact for the customers and the communities the company serves as part of its ongoing Corporate Responsibility program. The effort encourages teams of employees to volunteer in the communities where they live and work. In its fifth year, this year’s event set a record for participation and results.

Employees demonstrated a diverse range of skills through projects that included a beach clean-up in New York, an ecological restoration project in New Jersey, a diaper drive to benefit families in need in Kentucky, a wildlife refuge clean-up in California, a landscaping effort for United Way’s Day of Caring event in West Virginia and volunteering at the Special Olympics in Missouri. Many employees also volunteered at animal shelters and food pantries, while others teamed up with their local Ronald McDonald House or Habitat for Humanity.
