SDSU Students Launch Kickstarter Campaign to Fund ShredLights

Students from San Diego State University’s Zahn Innovation Center bring their creative invention for skateboard headlights to funding platform
PRLog - July 14, 2015 - SAN DIEGO -- ShredLights announced today that is it seeking funding for its Kickstarter Campaign to launch its innovative skateboard headlight product. ShredLights are skateboard headlights that are easily installed, used and removed. The patent-pending design is the creation of students from the Zahn Innovation Center located at San Diego State University. The product is the brainchild of founder, Drew Page, who after hitting a particularly large crack in the sidewalk one night, realized the need for headlights on his skateboard. “I have been skateboarding for over 15 years, and I’ve seen first-hand how bad the crack problem is in this country,” said Page. This led to the creation of the first-ever headlights for skateboards.

After several rounds of prototyping, the students created sleek and functional prototypes using 3-D printing in the Zahn Innovation Center. It is a project they are very excited about. However, the budget of a college student prevents them from taking their lights to full production. Therefore, Page and his team have taken their idea to Kickstarter.com in an attempt to raise $40,000 in 30 days.

While ShredLights help skaters to see better, they do not interfere with the functionality of the skateboard. “Being skateboarders ourselves, we knew the lights had to be removable during the day, and stay completely out of the way for grinds at night,” added Page. “The product can be easily installed onto the unique bracket system developed by the ShredLights team. This design has also been prepped for war, the war on cracks, that is.” ShredLights are the only flashlights that are able to withstand the constant beating from skateboards. When skating through wet areas, the lights are even designed to be water-resistant so skaters can always “shred-on”.

Kickstarter campaigns operate under an “all-or-nothing” funding model so if the ShredLights project does not reach its goal at the end of 30 days, then it could take years to bring the product to market. To follow the progress of the ShredLights project, find them on Instagram (@ShredLights) and Facebook to spread the word through social media. Donations can be as small as $1 which will help their project come to life. However, larger donors will be featured among a limited group of ‘Ambasshredders’ that will get their picture on the ShredLights website.
