American Water’s Walter Lynch to Become President of NAWC at Annual Summit

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today the company will play an active role in the upcoming National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) Annual Summit, which will be held Oct. 5-8 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

At the conference, Walter Lynch, president and chief operating officer of regulated operations, will officially be appointed president of NAWC for a one-year term. Lynch has served as an NAWC board member since 2008.

“NAWC’s mission is to promote the value of the private sector as a provider of quality, sustainable, water services and innovative solutions. My role as president is to foster that mission by bringing the best of public service and private enterprise together to achieve safe, reliable water service to communities across America. The infrastructure challenges in this country are tremendous, but not insurmountable, provided we work together to create solutions,” said Lynch.

American Water will have a strong presence at the conference with several key leaders participating in panel discussions. These include the following:

  • Lynch will participate in the “Rate Regulation and Coming Water Challenges: What Works and What Needs to Change” panel.
  • Aldie Warnock, senior vice president of External Affairs, Communications and Public Policy will join with other leaders in a session titled, “It’s Not Just a ‘Nexus’ – Energizing Water-Energy Integration” to discuss American Water’s energy efficiency innovations.
  • Mark W. LeChevallier, Ph.D., Director of Innovation & Environmental Stewardship, will discuss “The Role of Technology: Past, Present and Future”.
  • Denise Venuti Free, manager of External Communications, will participate on a panel to discuss “Connecting Customers through Social Media”.

In addition, Julee Womack of American Water Military Services Group was selected to receive the NAWC Living Water Award for her efforts in building strong relationships between Hill Air Force Base and American Water. The NAWC Living Water Awards program celebrates exemplary private water industry professionals who are "living water" through their commitment to quality, service and community. Womack, a military spouse, is described by peers as an essential member of the team who goes above and beyond to find answers to challenging issues. As one of the 2014 winners, Womack is in the running for the 2014 Grand Prize Winner of the 2014 Living Water Awards, which will be announced on Oct. 7 at the Summit.

The NAWC Water Summit is hosted by the National Association of Water Companies – the voice of the private water industry and the organization exclusively representing this group of quality water service providers, innovation drivers, creative financiers and responsible partners.
