ZTE Leads Next Generation PON Development

ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), today announced that the industry’s first ASIC based XG-PON1 (10 Gigabits per second passive optical network) solution has been launched this year, and the follow on NG PON2 solution continues under development.

ZTE’s innovative solution provides an ASIC-based 8-port XG-PON1 user-card and ONUs. The benefits of the solution include low power consumption, high board port density, superior performance, high reliability, and ability to smoothly upgrade by fully reusing the existing PON resources.

“We are pleased to lead the global broadband access industry in innovation in this important technology segment,” said Zhu Yongxing, Vice President, ZTE Corporation. “ZTE is committed to offering the highest-performance optical network products to help customers build superior networks.”

ZTE’s XG-PON1 solutions have already been deployed by a number of Chinese and overseas operators. In 2012, ZTE initiated the world’s first XG-PON1 commercial trial in the UK, cementing ZTE’s position as an industry leader.

NG PON is among the key areas that ZTE continues to commit substantial resources in both financial and personnel terms as evident by its significant technical and leadership role in several major industrial standard organizations. The pre-standard 40G PON solution is now being developed and tested in the lab and ZTE has the world’s first proto-type of TWDM PON system which was developed a few years ago. In the latest report on the global fixed-network market by industry research company Ovum, ZTE held more than 70% of the global 10G PON market in 2013.
