American Water Awarded Contract for Wastewater Treatment Plant in Islip, New York

American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that its subsidiary, Applied Water Management, has been awarded a $3.4 million contract from Home Properties, Inc. (NYSE: HME) to build a wastewater treatment plant in Islip, New York. The plant will treat 127,000 gallons a day and serve approximately 1,000 people in two developments.

Applied Water Management already serves as the contracted operator for the community’s existing wastewater treatment plant, as well as four other plants in Long Island for Home Properties. The company designed the new plant, successfully bid on the construction, and will continue its operations contract.
