American Water Virtual Annual Report Wins Outstanding Achievement Award

American Water (NYSE:AWK), the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, today announced that its 2009 virtual annual report has received an Outstanding Achievement Award in the category of Investor Relations by the Interactive Media Awards™ (IMA). This is the second year that the company’s virtual annual report has received recognition from IMA.

Created by the Interactive Media Council, the IMA Awards recognize the highest standards of excellence in website design and development. Judges for this year’s awards included representatives from CNNmoney.com, New York Times, Conde Nast Publications, Microsoft, Verizon and American Express.

Taking advantage of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s innovative Notice and Access rules, American Water’s 2009 annual report and proxy materials were posted on Form 10-K at www.amwaterannualreport.com. The virtual annual report brings American Water’s financial and other business information to life through a library of videos featuring members of the company’s executive leadership team.
