Vacuum Wars Introduces Groundbreaking Testing Method for Mopping Robots

Vacuum Wars has introduced an innovative new way to test mopping robots.

Vacuum Wars, a leading authority in vacuum and floor care reviews, proudly announces the launch of its all-new testing methodology for robot vacuum moping. This innovative approach provides an objective and comprehensive assessment of the latest robot vacuum mop systems, culminating in the revelation of the top 10 models of the year.

Robot vacuums that can both mop and vacuum have become one of the best reasons to invest in a robotic cleaner. With advancements occurring almost weekly, these devices are continually improving in mopping efficiency and feature offerings. Recognizing its previous testing system was outdated, Vacuum Wars spent the past few months developing a new stain removal test designed to accurately measure and compare robot vacuum mopping capabilities. This has led to an all-new updated best robot mop list, an addition to Vacuum Wars “Top Picks” lists.

"Our old system just wasn't cutting it anymore," said Christopher White, founder of Vacuum Wars. "Robot vacuum mops have evolved significantly, and we needed a testing method that could keep up with the latest innovations to provide our audience with reliable, unbiased information."

Introducing the New Testing Methodology

The new stain removal test involves setting nine carefully measured stains—four coffee and five grape juice stains—with increasing amounts of fluid for each stain. These stains are allowed to dry, and each carries a point value based on its difficulty to remove.

Each robot vacuum mop gets four runs to try to clear the stains. Points earned in the first run are multiplied by four, the second run by three, the third by two, and the fourth run's points are face value. This scoring system rewards robots that can clean more effectively in fewer passes, simulating real-world efficiency.

To ensure fairness and accuracy, Vacuum Wars controlled several variables:

  • Mop pads are moistened and wrung out beforehand.
  • Robots are allowed to return to their docks to wash their pads after each run; if they lack this feature, pads are washed and wrung out manually.
  • Obstacle avoidance is turned off (if applicable).
  • Cleaning paths are set to "standard."
  • Water levels are set to maximum where applicable.
  • Special mop features are turned off to ensure results are based on core performance.
  • No mop solution is used—only cold water—to prevent discrepancies based on solution concentration.
  • A "run" consists of one perimeter pass and one set of standard back-and-forth passes. If a robot attempts to repeat this process, it is manually stopped and sent back to the base.

Insights and Observations

The testing revealed several interesting insights:

  • Advancements in Mopping Technology: Robot vacuum mops are becoming remarkably effective. Some top-performing models even outperformed leading upright cordless vacuum mop combos, challenging previous assumptions about their capabilities.
  • Importance of Mop Pad Design: Spinning pad systems generally performed better in stain removal, although the Eufy Omni S1 Pro's single spinning mop roller proved exceptionally effective.
  • Evolving Features: Higher-end robot vacuums now offer features like self-rising mop pads, allowing them to automatically lift the mop when detecting carpets, enabling simultaneous vacuuming and mopping without manual intervention.
  • Auto Mop Pad Washing Stations: These stations have become a game-changer, automating maintenance by washing mop pads with hot water, filling water tanks, emptying dirty water, and drying mop pads after each run.

Future Updates

Vacuum Wars anticipates that this list will evolve as more models are tested using the new methodology. The company will maintain a top 10 list on its website, updated regularly to reflect new reviews and testing outcomes.
