Charleston, South Carolina – Steinberg Law Firm recently announced the recipients of its 2023 scholarships. This program honors outstanding students who exhibit leadership qualities, resilience, and a commitment to bettering their communities. Applicants were required to submit academic transcripts, an extracurricular activity list, and an 800-word essay answering one of three questions.
The honorees each received a $1000 scholarship paid directly to their college. The winners include:
Owen is a graduate of Greenwood High School who is now pursuing his degree at Anderson University. With a dual focus on Nursing and Spanish, Owen has displayed remarkable perseverance after sustaining a serious injury during his sophomore year. Not only did he achieve second place in his weight class at the Wrestling State Championship, but he also coaches younger athletes.
Carsyn, a Charleston County School of the Arts alumna, takes her passion for performance to Winthrop University, where she studies Psychology and Theatre Arts. Her aspiration to blend her artistic talents with a career in therapy is a testament to her desire to support others. Her leadership abilities have been an asset to her high school and now, to her university community.
Annabelle, who attended The Governor’s School for Agriculture and Lucy Beckham High School, is heading to Clemson University with a focus on sustainable agriculture. Her interest in this vital field blossomed during the pandemic through a personal gardening project, and she now aims to make a lasting impact in agricultural practices.
Connor, whose high school career was shaped by Saint Joseph’s Catholic School, has chosen The University of Notre Dame for his next academic chapter. His philanthropic efforts led to the founding of Bright Lights Greenville, an initiative that helps the local homeless community by providing essential hygiene kits. With over 3,600 kits distributed, Connor’s leadership has been invaluable to the organization and those it serves.
Jaylen, from West Ashley High School, will soon join the University of South Carolina. Jaylen’s story highlights his adeptness at balancing academic commitments, athletics, and work, all while caring for his mother as an only child.
“The essays these students submitted were full of hope and promise,” said partner Michael Jordan. “We were so impressed with their courage, resiliency in the face of daunting challenges, and their commitment to their future.”
