In the golden autumn of October, the 3rd Liangzhu Forum grandly opened in Hangzhou. From October 18th to 20th, this cultural event, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, was themed “Revitalization of Civilization: Cultural Heritage and Human Culture Diversity”. It gathered around 300 experts and scholars from the fields of cultural heritage, archaeology, cultural museums, and art from around the world, initiating a cross-time-and-space dialogue of civilizations.
This year’s forum included the opening ceremony, the main forum and four sub-forums with the theme of "Cultural Roots: Timeless Wisdom and Contemporary Value of Ancient Civilizations," "Innovation in Practice: Urban Archaeology, Heritage Site Conservation and Coordinated Urban-Rural Development," "Sustained Legacy: Expansion of Museum Functions and Utilization of Cultural Relics," and "Future Vision: World Cultural Heritage and A New Model for Human Advancement", demonstrating China’s exploration achievements in cultural heritage protection, innovation, and inheritance.
This year’s forum deepened cooperation with UNESCO and the UN Tourism, highlighting its growing international influence. Under the theme of “Revitalization of Civilization”, the Liangzhu Forum not only showcased innovative practices of “culture + technology”, “culture + tourism”, and “culture + people’s livelihood”, but also presented the vitality and inclusiveness of Chinese culture to the world through the “new three cultural trios” going global.
Just as advocated by this year’s forum, Liangzhu is becoming an important platform for dialogue between Chinese civilization and global civilizations. Here, Anubis from ancient Egypt engages in an imaginative video dialogue with Liangzhu across space, while driverless technology and VR resonate with the 5,000-year-old civilization relics. This is a vivid portrayal of the diversity of human civilizations in the new era, as well as a wonderful practice of deepening mutual learning among civilizations and jointly shaping the future of civilizations.
