Majority of Canadians say purchasing resale tickets online is risky, with the rise of AI being the main driver.
goConfirm, the leading consumer anti-scam app, today announced the launch of new features to protect consumers from online fraud. The update introduces four major features: The Vault, Payment Loss Protection, Verified Messaging, and Ticket Proof, a first-of-its-kind technology coming shortly that enables buyers to request, and sellers to provide proof of both possession and authenticity of digital tickets—dramatically reducing ticket scams in resale transactions on social media.
New data from goConfirm and Angus Reid found that a shocking 87% of Canadians say it is risky to buy resale tickets from people on social media. The survey also found that:
- 63% think that the rise in AI has made ticket buying/selling fraud more prevalent.
- 64% of Canadians say they are concerned about ticket scams in their community, with Ontario and British Columbia ranking as the most concerned
Just last year, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre received close to 200 reports of fraud connected to Taylor Swift's Eras Canadian Tour tickets, most of which came from people who were scammed out of money. With thousands of new users signing up for goConfirm last month alone during VELD, Burning Man, TIFF and more, the demand for this technology during busy concert seasons is clear.
How to avoid being scammed online?
Launched in 2023, goConfirm has quickly become a trusted solution for tens of thousands of people transacting online. By requiring government ID and biometric verification, using bank-grade encryption, providing secure in-app messaging, and other risk prevention signals, over 99.98% of interactions in the app happen fraud-free.
“Tips for avoiding scams aren’t enough anymore — consumers need real tools,” said Sam Pajot-Phipps, CEO and co-founder of goConfirm. “This has been a growing issue for years, but the rise of AI has made things worse. At goConfirm, we’re using AI against itself to create tools that give people the ability to protect themselves, verify who they’re dealing with, and ultimately send money to someone online with confidence.”
Now, goConfirm introduces four powerful new features:
- The Vault – A secure space where users can safely add, share and request payment methods such as PayPal, Interac e-Transfer, and Wise with their buyer or sellers.
- Payment Loss Protection – When buyers and sellers are connected and coordinate their transaction in the app, buyers are protected up to $250 USD if their seller disappears with their money.
- Verified Messaging – A new messaging experience allowing buyers and sellers to move conversations off platforms where there are challenges like impersonation and blocking, and into a fully verified, end-to-end encrypted chat with a digital record to safely coordinate a transaction.
- Ticket Proof (coming shortly) – The first tool designed to combat fake screenshots and fraudulent ticket resales. Ticket Proof uses AI to enable sellers to generate a proof of ownership of their digital ticket by connecting to their ticket platform account, then sharing it with their buyer so they can send money with confidence.
By embedding AI-powered fraud prevention directly into consumer interactions, goConfirm is building a future where people can safely connect, communicate, and transact online, whether buying event tickets or selling goods on social media.

Methodology:
These findings are from a survey conducted by goConfirm from August 21st to August 25th, 2025, among a representative sample of 1507 online adult Canadians who are members of the Angus Reid Forum. The survey was conducted in English and French. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/-2.53 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
