Panel of eating disorder experts share valuable insights for Cleveland parents
The Emily Program, a nationally recognized leader in eating disorder specialty care and behavioral health services, today announced its participation in the “Community of Care: Helping a Child in Crisis” panel discussion hosted by Hudson Community First, a local nonprofit organization in Hudson, OH that promotes positive youth development. The Emily Program’s Senior Regional Director Brittany Davis, Physician Assistant and Lead Medical Provider Kelsey Carpenter, and Adolescent Program Dietician Valerie Nicholson had an informative discussion about eating disorder treatment with Hudson Community First’s Co-director Laura Jones.
The distinguished panel of experts advises parents on how to recognize the signs of eating disorders in their loved ones, complications of various eating disorders, the importance of intervening early, and take prompt action toward treatment of disordered eating for better long-term outcomes.
“We are so grateful for the opportunity to speak with Hudson Community First on such an important topic for parents. Parents are their children’s best advocates and pay the closest attention to their children’s eating behaviors. They often are the first to recognize an eating disorder,” said Brittany Davis, MEd, LPCC-S, Senior Regional Director of The Emily Program’s Midwest operations. “Parents make a huge impact when it comes to creating a healthy and positive atmosphere for their children around food and can be great advocates for their children for getting treatment.”
Eating disorder treatment is specialized and necessary to prevent further medical consequences. Davis and the panel participants from The Emily Program share what parents should look for in their children’s eating habits and behaviors around food, when professional care is necessary and what to look for in a potential care provider. Treatment providers work closely with parents to help them understand their child’s illness and foster recovery for their child.
