ZEDEDA Launches Edge Kubernetes App Flows, the Industry's First Full-Stack Edge Kubernetes Solution Built for AI-Driven Intelligence at the Edge

  • Simplifies edge operations by delivering consistent app management across distributed locations, minimizing expensive manual intervention at each site
  • Automates large-scale edge infrastructure and application deployment—enforcing desired state for thousands of edge clusters, even with unreliable network connectivity
  • Optimized AI processing close to operational data sources reduces expensive data backhaul to the cloud

ZEDEDA, the leader in edge orchestration, today announced the first full-stack edge Kubernetes-as-a-Service solution that extends a cloud-native deployment experience to distributed edge environments. This new solution, ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows, automates the edge application lifecycle—from packaging and configuration to delivery and observability—eliminating the need to manage cluster and application orchestration infrastructure. Edge Kubernetes App Flows supports the bare-metal and GPU compute required for edge AI applications, such as automated detection of manufacturing flaws and predictive maintenance.

Built on ZEDEDA’s proven edge platform, the new integrated Kubernetes solution extends the platform’s zero-trust architecture and offline resilience—keeping tens of thousands of devices and Kubernetes instances running continuously, even in demanding field environments with physical vulnerabilities and intermittent connectivity.

By 2028, 80% of custom software running at the physical edge will be deployed in containers, up from just 10% in 2023, according to Gartner.* Yet current Kubernetes workflow tools are designed for cloud or data center environments and fail to address the realities of scaling across intermittently disconnected and resource-constrained edge environments.

“Our customers are showing us what’s possible when AI and distributed cloud-native applications meet the realities of the edge,” said Said Ouissal, ZEDEDA’s CEO and founder. ”Our new full-stack Kubernetes solution is a natural extension of ZEDEDA’s award-winning edge platform, delivering the agility and control developers require, helping teams orchestrate experiences and infrastructure seamlessly across every location.”

The Cloud-Native Edge, Simplified

ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows combines GitOps-based delivery with ZEDEDA’s zero-trust edge platform—letting organizations focus on applications, not infrastructure.

Key capabilities include:

  • Application Definition and Marketplace: Deploys customizable application definitions consistently across distributed edge locations.
  • Application Packaging and Distribution: Builds and distributes manifests tailored for edge requirements.
  • GitOps-Based Continuous Delivery: Automates deployments through approved Git workflows for full auditability.
  • Adaptive Observability: Monitors deployment and performance, even with intermittent connectivity and limited bandwidth.

Built for Edge Scale and Security

ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows is built on and integrates with all the leading security and scalability capabilities of ZEDEDA’s proven edge platform, including:

  • Zero-Trust Security: Continuous validation of edge devices, applications, and communications.
  • Offline Resilience: Graceful handling of intermittent connectivity and disconnected operations.
  • Edge Scale: Support for tens of thousands of clusters and unattended edge devices.

“We’ve seen with our customers that bringing edge AI and distributed applications to life means solving one of the toughest problems in modern infrastructure, extending the power of Kubernetes to places where connectivity, resources, and scale bear little resemblance to the cloud,” said Padraig Stapleton, SVP and Chief Product Officer at ZEDEDA. “By unifying the lifecycle management of edge applications, Kubernetes clusters, and devices into a single solution, enterprises are able to streamline the deployment of intelligent workloads without adding operational complexity or security risk.”

ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows were designed in collaboration with ZEDEDA customers in manufacturing, energy, transportation, and retail to improve the productivity of edge application developers. It is particularly valuable for teams that need deployment ease alongside hardware-agnostic flexibility.

Availability

ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows are now generally available. Existing customers gain automated, secure deployment at scale; new customers get instant Kubernetes simplicity at the edge.

ZEDEDA will showcase these new capabilities during a webinar on Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. PT. Register for the webinar at ZEDEDA.com.

ZEDEDA will be active throughout KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America, participating in Kubernetes on Edge Day with the session “Edge Kubernetes in Action: From Connected Vessels to Industrial Automation” on Monday, Nov. 10, at 9:40 a.m. ET. Attendees can visit ZEDEDA at Booth T1 during Kubernetes on Edge Day or Booth #843 throughout the main conference to learn more about the company’s edge orchestration solutions.

Q&A: ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows Explained

Q: What is ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows?

A: A comprehensive application lifecycle management solution for Kubernetes at the edge. It automates packaging, configuration, continuous delivery, and observability for edge applications while addressing challenges unique to edge devices, such as intermittent connectivity and limited compute and memory resources.

Q: Who is it for?

A: Application architects and developers in enterprises with distributed or multi-site operations—such as manufacturing, energy, transportation, and retail—as well as smaller organizations building AI and edge workloads.

Q: How is it different from other Kubernetes workflow solutions?

A: Unlike cloud-native tools, ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows is purpose-built for the edge. It handles intermittent connectivity, disconnected operations, and scales to tens of thousands of clusters, inheriting ZEDEDA Edge Platform’s zero-trust management capabilities.

Q: What problems does it solve?

A: It eliminates the complexity of manually configuring, packaging, and deploying Kubernetes applications across distributed locations—providing consistent, auditable, secure workflows without the operational burden of managing orchestration at edge scale.

Q: What benefits can customers expect?

A: Simplified, automated lifecycle management that’s secure, auditable, and resilient—reducing manual effort while improving reliability and compliance.

Q: Does it support AI applications?

A: Yes. Edge Kubernetes App Flows supports AI application deployment via GitOps workflows across both AMD and ARM CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs.

Q: How does it handle connectivity challenges?

A: Built on ZEDEDA Edge Platform, it inherits zero-trust device management designed specifically to handle intermittent or disconnected operations. Edge nodes automatically pull updates when connectivity is available, ensuring continuous operation.

Q: How does it integrate with existing ZEDEDA deployments?

A: App Flows runs on ZEDEDA Edge Platform, leveraging its device management, security, and connectivity capabilities.

Q: When will it be available?

A: ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows is generally available now.

Q: What do you mean by a "full-stack" Kubernetes solution?

A: ZEDEDA Edge Platform manages the entire stack required to run applications—from the edge node's operating system (EVE-OS) and hypervisor, to Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management (K3s), to application deployment via GitOps workflows. It's a single, managed solution from bare metal to application.

Q: What Kubernetes distribution does ZEDEDA use?

A: ZEDEDA Edge Kubernetes App Flows deploys and manages standard, lightweight Kubernetes distributions—specifically K3s—rather than a proprietary fork. This provides flexibility and avoids vendor lock-in while maintaining upstream compatibility.

Q: How does the zero-trust model work?

A: Every edge node running EVE-OS has a hardware-backed identity using a Trusted Platform Module (TPM). All connections are authenticated and encrypted, with no inbound ports required. The edge node pulls updates and manifests after authentication—the controller cannot push to nodes. This architecture prevents a compromised control plane from attacking the edge fleet.
