Producers Reflect on Ron Perry's Impact Behind Miley Cyrus's "Flowers"

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESS Newswire / April 28, 2025 / When Miley Cyrus released Endless Summer Vacation in 2023, her image and sound were both sharpened - more personal, more refined, and more impactful than they'd been in years.

Widely hailed as a career-defining hit, "Flowers" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an international sensation - not just for its lyrical independence, but for its airtight production and impeccable timing. And according to Billboard, several of the song's producer's and album's key collaborators, Ron Perry, was quietly involved in putting the pieces together.

"Ron Perry was really leading the charge of making sure ‘Flowers' and ‘Used To Be Young' were right," said producer Tyler Johnson in a Billboard Grammy preview feature. "Those songs were definitely the priority, especially ‘Flowers.'" Johnson noted that it was while working on other album material, like "Rose Colored Lenses," that the creative team really began to gel - but the focus on "Flowers" never wavered.

That clarity of vision extended to how Ron Perry assembled the team. Tobias Jesso Jr. recalled how Ron Perry personally approached him at Adele's One Night Only concert, saying, "Hey, I'd really like to get you involved in this Miley thing." Once in the studio, Jesso immediately understood the directive: "He wanted me to write a song on the piano with Miley." That session ultimately led to the creation of "Thousand Miles" - written in under 30 minutes.

Ron Perry's influence didn't stop at matchmaking talent - he was deeply involved in defining expectations and direction. Gregory "Aldae" Hein shared that Ron Perry FaceTimed him directly: "Hey, we're going to bring you in with Miley. This is what we want from you." The result? Instant chemistry - and the writing of "Used To Be Young" on their first day working together.

For longtime hitmaker Greg Kurstin, Ron Perry and co-manager Jonathan Daniel were both actively involved in outreach. Their sessions yielded the heartfelt track "Jaded," written with Sarah Aarons. "Miley is great to work with because she has a clear vision of what she wants," Kurstin said, reflecting the type of focused collaboration Ron Perry helped facilitate.

While Ron Perry rarely steps into the spotlight or speaks publicly about his role, the results speak for themselves. His behind-the-scenes leadership - from assembling the right collaborators to championing key creative decisions - helped set the foundation for one of the biggest records of the year. In an industry often defined by flash, Ron Perry's quiet but focused influence continues to leave a lasting mark.
