Roche (SWX: ROG.VX; RO.S; OTCQX: RHHBY), a world-leading healthcare provider of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, announced today that it has extended its offer to acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VMSI) to 5:00 p.m., New York City time on Friday, March 14, 2008.  The tender offer was previously scheduled to expire at 5:00 p.m., New York City time, on January 17, 2008.  All other terms and conditions of the tender offer remain unchanged.  As of the close of business on January 16, 2008, approximately 62,401 shares have been tendered pursuant to the offer.
