SUN Behavioral Health Acquires Seaside’s Community Agencies, Expanding Access to Community-Based Mental Health Services Across the Southeast

May 2, 2025 – SUN Behavioral Health, a leading provider of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services, today announced the acquisition of the home- and community-based services division of Seaside Healthcare, a prominent behavioral health provider across six Southeastern states. The acquisition significantly expands SUN’s continuum of care and reinforces its commitment to delivering high-quality mental health services where they are needed most.

This strategic move positions SUN to better serve vulnerable populations by strengthening access to behavioral health services in underserved areas. It also aligns with SUN’s long-term vision to bridge the gap between acute care and sustained community support, addressing complex patient needs holistically.

As part of the transaction, Seaside’s acute inpatient facilities are not included and will continue to operate under Seaside Healthcare's name. The acquired community-based agencies will retain known and trusted names in their local markets. The administrative leadership supporting those agencies will transition to SUN's corporate team under the SUN Behavioral Health brand.

With this expansion, SUN adds a strong presence in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and Virginia, with a focus on home- and community-based services (HCBS) for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and youth with complex behavioral health needs.

“This acquisition brings together two mission-driven organizations with complementary strengths,” said Steve Page, CEO of SUN Behavioral Health. “By combining SUN’s hospital-based expertise with Seaside’s deep experience in community care, we can deliver more integrated, person-centered services that help individuals move from crisis toward long-term recovery.”

The combined organization will operate in nine states, offering a robust continuum of care that supports individuals with chronic behavioral health conditions in the least restrictive setting, from acute inpatient treatment to sustained care in the home and community.

Seaside’s community services leadership team will remain in place, ensuring continuity of care, culture, and local relationships. Integration efforts will begin immediately, with a shared focus on clinical excellence, operational alignment, and value-based partnerships with managed Medicaid payors committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable populations.

The acquisition comes at a time when mental health needs are rising nationwide, and payors and policymakers are increasingly challenging providers to deliver higher-quality care with greater efficiency.

“We’re excited about what this means for our clients, staff, and partners,” said Eric Gintoli, COO of Seaside Healthcare. “Joining SUN strengthens our ability to scale innovative, high-quality care to more people in more places.”

The transaction closed on May 1, 2025. Financial terms were not disclosed. Bailey & Company served as the financial advisor to Seaside on this transaction.
