Aqara Introduces UWB-Powered Smart Lock U400 at CES 2026

The Matter-certified, Aliro-ready lock delivers hands-free home entry with unmatched security and precision

Aqara, a global leader and pioneer in IoT, today unveiled the revolutionary Smart Lock U400 at CES, further expanding its smart lock portfolio. Equipped with the cutting-edge ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, this deadbolt lock uses high-precision location tracking to offer intuitive, hands-free unlocking with home key on iPhone or Apple Watch.1 With incredible accuracy, the U400 automatically unlocks when an authorized user walks up to the door, marking a major leap forward in secure, convenient, and reliable access control. The Smart Lock U400 is now available for purchase in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

“We are excited to be among the first manufacturers to deliver UWB technology in home locks to consumers,” said Cathy You, Aqara Senior Vice President of Global Business and Strategy. “At Aqara, we envision a future where smart home technology is seamless, intuitive, and even invisible—your home responds naturally to the people within it, without requiring constant user interaction. With the U400 lock, we’re redefining how consumers engage with their access control systems, providing instant, automated access without compromising privacy.”

The Smart Lock U400 is designed for effortless home access. Instead of tapping-to-unlock or entering a PIN code, users can simply walk toward the door to unlock it with an authorized digital key like a home key in Apple Wallet. Unlike traditional proximity-based technologies like Bluetooth, UWB utilizes Time of Flight (ToF) distance measurement and Angle of Arrival (AoA) calculations to track the user's trajectory. This ensures the lock only grants access when the authorized user approaches from the outside and minimizes accidental unlocks when the user is inside or merely passing by. Beyond convenience, UWB strengthens security. Thanks to precise ranging and security enhancements like scrambled timestamp sequence (STS), the U400 lock features robust protection against relay attacks.

The U400 lock seamlessly integrates with home key in Apple Wallet on iPhone or Apple Watch. Unlock a door simply by approaching with an iPhone, even if it’s in a bag or pocket, or an Apple Watch on the wrist. While pairing the U400 lock in the Apple Home app, a home key is automatically added to Apple Wallet on iPhone for all residents of the household. Residents can set up and manage home key guest access in the Apple Home app. Additionally, the U400 offers various access options to accommodate user habits and preferences, ranging from NFC (including tap-to-unlock with an authorized digital key like a home key in Apple Wallet or with an Aqara NFC card2), fingerprint recognition, one-time and recurring passcodes, unlock remotely via mobile apps, voice assistants like Alexa and Siri, and traditional mechanical keys for emergencies.

Built on the Thread protocol, the U400 lock works seamlessly with a wide range of Matter-enabled platforms, including Alexa, Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, and SmartThings, without requiring a proprietary hub.3 It integrates smoothly into existing automation, scenes, and routines, ensuring future-proof compatibility across devices, brands, and ecosystems. This UWB lock is Aliro-ready, aiming to offer the next-gen mobile access experience to all users regardless of their hardware or operating system. For example, Samsung Wallet will be supported on the U400 in Q1 2026, allowing users to use a compatible Samsung device as a digital key.

Other highlights of this lock include auto-lock that is powered by a built-in gyroscope, an IP65-rated durable design, and a rechargeable Li-ion battery offering up to 6 months of operation per charge.4 When the battery dies, users can recharge the U400 with a third-party power bank.5 The U400 lock is available in 4 elegant colors: black, silver, shadow black, and satin nickel, allowing it to blend into most home decor.

The Aqara Smart Lock U400 is now available for purchase through Aqara's official website (US, Canada), Amazon (US, Canada), Apple Store locations and apple.com (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore), Best Buy (US), and other select retailers in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.6 In addition, the lock is expected to be available in Apple Store locations and apple.com in the US later this month.

Aqara is showcasing a live demo of the Smart Lock U400, along with other smart home innovations, at CES 2026 (Booth #51229, Halls A-D, Venetian Expo).

The Aqara Smart Lock U400 utilizes NXP® Semiconductors’ secure Trimension® UWB and NFC solutions. As part of the ongoing collaboration between two companies, the lock is also featured in NXP’s CES 2026 showcase (Booth #134, Central Plaza, LVCC).
