The Monk Estate Joins Filé in Presenting Juneteenth Art & Culture Exhibit, Honoring Thelonious Monk’s Legacy

In celebration of Juneteenth, Filé — TriBeCa’s go-to gumbo bar and cultural hub — is proud to host a vibrant new Art & Culture Exhibit inspired by the music and spirit of jazz legend Thelonious Monk. Curated by Julion St. Hill, the exhibition opens the evening of June 19 and runs for four weeks, offering a lively tribute to Black culture through visual art, sound, and community connection—in collaboration with the Monk Estate.

This is no ordinary gallery show — it’s a traveling exhibit, designed to evolve and grow with each new space it inhabits. The collection features original works by a dynamic group of artists who translate Monk’s rhythm, legacy, and likeness into bold visual form. From expressive portraiture to abstract improvisation, each piece pays homage to one of jazz’s most inventive minds and the richness of Black creativity.

All artwork is available for purchase, giving collectors and admirers the chance to take home a piece of the experience. Follow @theloniousmonk on Instagram for more information.

WHEN: Opening Night – Thursday, June 19, 2025

WHERE: Filé, 275 Church Street, New York, NY (TriBeCa)
