The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) curtailed 1.5 million MWh of utility-scale solar-powered electricity generation in 2020 — 5% of total utility-scale production — according to a new report by the Energy Information Administration.
The data represents an increasing trend of monthly solar curtailments in the state since January 2015.

CAISO is expected to add 1.6 GW of utility-scale solar capacity and .4 GW of onshore wind turbine capacity in 2021, as part of its target of 50% renewable generation by 2025, along with 2.5 GW of new battery storage capacity.
