Edmonds, WA, March 23, 2020 – Stefan Torres has made a name creating fun, entertaining videos that also help educate people about a plethora of common health issues. The Board Certified Emergency Registered and Nurse Entrepreneur has done videos on diabetes, measles, heatstroke, suicide prevention, and alcohol withdrawal, among other subjects, which have earned hundreds of thousands of views on FaceBook and are gaining traction on YouTube. In one of his most popular videos, he straps on fake breasts to demonstrate how to conduct a self-examination. But the humor is the sugar that helps the medicine — in this case, well researched, scientifically-based information about common health topics — go down.
Now, Nurse Stefan, as he is known, who is also among the area’s most popular healthcare speakers, has launched a YouTube Channel dedicated to hosting his innovative, engaging videos.
In addition to his videos, Nurse Stefan has garnered lots of attention within the healthcare community, both locally and nationwide. He was the first-place winner of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s National Nurses Week Contest, was recognized by the University of Washington as one of the one hundred most distinguished nurses of influence of the last one hundred years, was named March of Dimes Nurse of the Year 2019, and was named The University of Washington Bothell Campus inaugural recipient of the Alumnus of the year Award 2019-2020 He has appeared in local media stories frequently and was recently featured on the front page, previously appearing on Seattle’s KING5 news network twice before.
And it’s not just patients he treats. He has a particular interest as a nurse educator, buoying other nurses engaged in what can be an incredibly demanding, stressful job, one in which rates of burnout are incredibly high. He pioneered a video series called Carpool Consult, which took a creative approach to talk with other nurses in an effort to address and reduce the factors related to nursing burnout. And while on duty, he focuses on connecting with colleagues in an effort to help reignite the passion for nursing that brought them into the profession in the first place, openly engaging with nurses in real discussions about work stressors, and offering self-care strategies to help renew the nursing spirit.
Nurse Stefan is committed to building a culture of health among nursing colleagues and patients alike. He infuses humor around difficult yet important topics to raise awareness, truly connects and communicate, and inspire nurses. His goal is to not only positively impact the lives and health of nurses, but all those entrusted to their care.
In addition, Nurse Stefan Torres has become a popular speaker at all sorts of events, including The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: “High Tech to High Touch,” the American Nurses Association Annual Banquet in Idaho, and will be the keynote speaker at the Washington Center for Nursing’s Annual Event this coming May. He is always available to speak at health-related conferences, symposia, and other events.
Throughout, his passion for nursing has never receded. There is, he says, nothing that can fulfill him more than sliding up on a roller chair to a patient and asking, “How can I help?”
