Enquizit is a technology firm based in the greater Washington D.C. area that specializes in delivering cloud solutions and is a member of the Amazon Web Services Partner Network. Enquizit has assisted several other institutions of higher learning achieve goals similar to those of USC. They are one of the few AWS partners that hold the AWS Education Competency, and were a launch partner as well. According to Enquizit's lead architect, Asim Iqbal, "Universities are neither government agencies nor commercial enterprises. They have very different cultures, needs, users, and operational proclivities that make them unique. We understand that there is a subtly different approach to providing technology services that needs to be taken when dealing with an institute of higher learning."
Talks with USC are only commencing now so the contract value and duration is still undetermined.
USC can expect to gain access to the increased speed of Internet2, global cloud infrastructure, a new and improved set of management tools, and all the storage and computing power they'll ever need. Ironically enough, moving to the cloud to obtain these benefits and enhancements typically results in a significantly smaller ongoing investment than hanging on to existing data centers. "Building, maintaining, securing, and refreshing an IT infrastructure that is supposed to accommodate hundreds of thousands of users in multiple countries is a huge expense. When you can transition that responsibility to an organization that has everything you need ready to go and only pay for what you use, the positive impact on the bottom line is quite substantial," said Iqbal.
