The Pan Pacific Performance Award (3PA) was a joint venture between Asian financial regulators and the top rated major financial houses and was introduced back in 2009 following the market crash in August 2008. The "crash" was largely caused by the failures of some of the largest and longest established financial institutions in the USA.

The primary reason for such institutions being involved and pushing for 3PA's birth was that its introduction into the industry would hopefully improve consumer confidence and restore trust into the market. With so many world recognized institutions, who appeared to be the 'good guys' going into financial meltdown, something urgent and effective was needed to do this, and the 3PA is the solution to help address such issues.

The intended outcome of 3PA was that it would make the financial institutions and advisors who were genuinely working with honesty and integrity, demonstrate the necessary transparency for investors to see. The awards take into consideration not only the portfolio's overall performance, but also looks at everything from regulatory compliance, trading methods employed as well as client satisfaction and retention rates.
