The Great American Protest: Labor Day

By: PRLog
PRLog - Jul 18, 2013 - MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- New group promotes The Great American Protest, with mass protests throughout the country on Labor Day, September 2, 2013.

Americans are fed up. Public approval of Congress is at an historic low. The public is becoming increasingly aware of corrupt politicians who spend up to 70% of their time raising money to get elected. Corporations and plutocrats are increasingly controlling government. Conservatives have always hated President Obama and now many liberals are disgusted with him. Now, thanks to Edward Snowden, America and the world has become aware of government spying on internet and telephone communications.

Congress is dysfunctional and is focused only on getting re-elected. Sequestration's effects will soon become more glaring as workers' hours are cut and layoffs occur. Public programs such as Headstart, Meals on Wheels, and school lunches for children from low-income homes are cut. Thousands of Medicaid recipients will lose their medical care.

Yet none of the Wall Street Crooks who caused our economic crash have been tried and imprisoned.

Business profits are high, some corprations with billions of dollars in income pay no taxes. Companies have sent millions of jobs overseas to sweatshops. As "195,000 New Jobs!" hits the headlines, the corporate media doesn't mention that most of those jobs are low-wage or that many of those who are "employed" are working at low-wage, no-benefit, jobs because they can't find a decent full-time job.

Yet the politicians who are unwilling to address the nation's woes ensured their wages aren't affected by sequestration and they continue to accept millions of dollars in contributions from lobbyists, corporations and plutocrats like the Koch brothers.

Too many Americans are complacent, apathetic, or resigned to believing they cannot change our dysfunctional government.

The Great American Protest hopes to change that, to let all Americans know they can promote change, to reclaim America by visibly and vocally letting politicians know Americans have had enough and demand that America be returned to its citizens.

This movement is non-profit and is not associated with any political party. It offers an opportunity for conservatives, liberals, libertarians and others to mutually address shared concerns: A broken government and corrupt politicians.

While Labor Day, 2013, is targeted for massive action across the United States, other actions may occur before or after Labor Day. Press releases will be published at the group's website.

The movement has a newly-published website and is actively seeking participants.
