PR Log - Sep 22, 2011 - Russell IPM Ltd a Wales based company and the manufacturer of Dismate PE the pheromone mating disruption systems for Indian Meal Moth are to unveil field data collected from several test sites across Europe in the past twelve months. The data which was showing significant and continuous decline in the moth population was also showing direct correlation between the Trap catch trends with the female egg laying behaviour.
The data clearly shows that the downward trend of the Indian meal population in factories managed by the Dismate PE system was clearly shadowed by a drop in the tendency of females lay eggs in the protected area.
Most significantly, annual trends of customer complaints relating to Indian Meal Moth were significantly reduced during the period in which the system was introduced.
In one factory wide application of Dismate PE for twelve months, the impact on the Indian Meal moth population was significantly higher than the effect of four Methyl bromide treatments routinely applied every year prior to the Dismate PE application.
Dismate PE, a product based on the release of small quantity of the nature-identical insect pheromone capable of disrupting the communication between the male and female leading to failed mating and subsequent and gradual reduction in the pest population.
The launch of Dismate PE came after extensive tests and evaluation by leading cereal manufacturers in different countries to establish its long term viability as a reliable alternative to the now banned fumigation product Methyl Bromide.
Methyl Bromide has been known for its damaging effect on the Ozone layer. The International community has agreed to phase out the use of Methyl Bromide and its eventual ban according to the Montreal protocol. Finding real alternative to Methyl bromide has been a challenge since.
Indian meal moth is a major problem in the production and storage of cereals and dry fruit. Other moths from the same family cause damage in other commodities such as the cocoa moth, and Tobacco moth, raisin moth.
