'No Price on Love' Say Brit Consumers in New DiscountVouchers.co.uk Survey

PR Log - Aug 31, 2011 - Money-saving website DiscountVouchers.co.uk has polled site users to find out their views on spending money in relationships and with loved ones. The retail offers website questioned Brits and discovered that 40% of them have an attitude of there being “no price on love” when the time comes to buy an engagement ring.

The DiscountVouchers.co.uk website sources deals for all the country's top on and offline retailers, and the new survey threw up further interesting statistics on love and money. The voucher code site reported that 11% of those polled believe in tradition and that an engagement ought to cost twice the fiancé's salary. The poll demonstrated that a further 30% are prepared to pay as much as £500 to get the right engagement ring.

The poll revealed some habits on spending money when eating out too, with 65% of respondents still content to divide a restaurant bill in half. Making a positive impression ahead of a first date is also popular too with 75% of people admitting they treat themselves to a new set of clothing, while 67% never order expensive food even if it is their favourite.

Spending money when in the early days of a new relationship remains popular, with 57% saying they like to go out to dinner regularly when just starting out in a partnership - 46% said that they often receive flowers.

25% of people get given jewellery while 20% admit to being taken away on a romantic breakaway somewhere. Just 5% of those polled said that their other half spoils them with new underwear however.

25% of those polled said that they would split up with someone who they considered to be stingy with money in a relationship, while conversely 37% do not feel a new partner's meanness with money is that important to them.

42% of respondents are prepared to get into debt with a new overdraft to fund gifts for a new partner, while 94% of male respondents don't expect their partner's family to pay for the entirety of a wedding and reception.
