Salt Lake City block party aims to promote Black business, more inclusion in Utah

Grammy-nominated group Tank and The Bangas headlining event set to unite the community

SALT LAKE CITY - Aug. 24, 2022 - PRLog -- City—Utah is one of the least culturally-diverse states in the country, but that's not stopping this Black-owned, non-profit marketing firm from encouraging Utahans to find the "U" in the community. Versatile Image (VI) is hosting UNITY Block Party: Discovering the "U" in Community, its third annual community block party, on Sept. 24. In partnership with Yelp Utah and UBLAC, this event aims to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the region by highlighting Black and Brown creatives and allowing people to recognize themselves in their community.

"Imagine the world you want to live in, then your local community coming together to make that vision a reality. We are helping lead Utah's effort to make SLC more inclusive and welcoming to black entrepreneurs, enterprises, and professionals," said VI's Founder and CEO, Michelda George.

Supported by various sponsors, including Pepsi, this block party will have activities for all ages and feature vendors, food trucks, an art installation, and live music. This inclusive showcase of art will be headlined by an evening concert featuring local artists and a performance from 2020 Best New Artist Grammy Nominee, Tank and the Bangas. Proceeds will go toward VI's next organizational goal to benefit the community: developing a space for artists to connect and flourish. This location will act as an innovative hub for Black
creatives in Utah and support growing small businesses.

"Salt Lake is a place where diverse pastimes, cultures and landscapes come together in our modern mountain hub of the West. The UNITY Block Party is a perfect culmination of what makes our community so special, and Visit Salt Lake is happy to support Versatile Image. Events like this truly showcase the amazing diversity and vibrancy of our urban city center," said Kaitlin Eskelson, President and CEO of Visit Salt Lake.
