In Jindong District, Jinhua City, China, Jindong District Network Culture Association releases story of the foreign friend celebrates traditional festival with the locals. The traditional "Bench Dragon Dance" has been a vibrant part of the Lantern Festival celebrations for over 300 years, carrying with it deep local cultural significance and wishes for joy and well-being.
This year, during the Lantern Festival, a young Russian man, Daniel, visited Huyan Village in Chisong Town, Jindong District, Jinhua, to experience the lively sounds of gongs and firecrackers. He watched in awe as a magnificent "Bench Dragon" made of over 100 benches danced in the streets.
The bench dragon, which stands about 2.6 meters tall, is adorned with 55 colorful glass lanterns. As the rhythm of the drums fills the air, the dragon weaves and twirls, rising and falling with impressive agility. Its movements—twisting, turning, and spiraling—demonstrate both strength and grace, creating a truly spectacular display.
Not only did Daniel join the dragon dance team, but he also tried his hand at playing gongs and exchanged New Year’s greetings with the locals. He was deeply moved by the traditional customs and festive atmosphere, saying, “The Spring Festival is not just a holiday, it’s also a time travel magic.”
