The "The Third Eye Sees China" short video brand was founded by the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration in 2018, with the first international short video competition held in 2019. The annual competition aims to capture the real and dynamic aspects of China through the perspectives of foreigners, documenting their explorations and discoveries in China, compiling global narratives about China, and showcasing cross-cultural integration from a third-party perspective.
This year's competition received 59,559 entries from over 130 countries and regions across five continents, covering more than 30 languages, including English, Japanese, Russian, German, and French. Among these, more than 1,200 submissions came from 23 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China.
After three rounds of professional judging, 112 winning works were selected, including 50 unit award-winning works, 4 special award-winning works, 7 Best Foreign Language Film awards, 1 Jury Grand Prize winner, and 50 Outstanding Work awards. These diverse entries vividly and multidimensionally present a credible, lovable, and respectable image of China.
A still from "Kungfu Calls Me"
"Kungfu Calls Me", produced by Hebei Daily Newspaper Group, is an overseas communication piece that tells the story of Valentin, a Swiss young man fascinated by Chinese Kung Fu, who comes to Cangzhou, Hebei—known as the "Hometown of Martial Arts"—to become an apprentice and learn Kung Fu. The story follows Valentin’s journey of apprenticeship and martial arts training, as well as his daily interactions with his master, Liu Lianjun, and his family. With a vivid and down-to-earth storytelling style, combining live-action footage with animation, the work not only highlights the unique charm and appeal of Chinese traditional culture but also showcases the warm and friendly image of Chinese people.
