Ministry Brands’ 2025 State of Church Giving Report Reveals Rebound in Generosity, Growing Opportunities in Recurring and Digital Wallet Giving

New data shows giving is on the rise, with churches embracing modern tools to inspire greater generosity and financial sustainability

Ministry Brands, the leading provider of church software and online giving solutions, today released its 2025 State of Church Giving Report, revealing a renewed spirit of generosity in churches across the country. For the first time in years, more than half (51%) of surveyed churches—across both Catholic and Protestant communities—reported an increase in overall giving, and new technologies are allowing ministries to better support their missions.

The report uncovers key opportunities for churches to nurture even greater generosity by making giving more accessible. While digital giving now accounts for 42% of total church donations for Ministry Brands’ faith-based customers, many churches have yet to fully embrace recurring giving and digital wallets—two tools proven to strengthen sustained giving and make generosity effortless for congregants.

Key Insights Fueling Church Giving Growth

  • Recurring giving strengthens ongoing generosity:
    • Recurring gifts now account for 42% of all digital donations and 57% of digital transactions. Surveyed churches that offer recurring giving are twice as likely to see an increase in overall giving, yet nearly half have yet to encourage or adopt this practice.
  • Digital wallets unlock new giving opportunities:
    • Contributions through Apple Pay, Venmo and other digital wallets more than doubled in 2024. However, only 20-33% of surveyed churches currently offer this option, despite data showing that younger donors are twice as likely to give when digital wallets are available.
  • Modern giving tools increase participation, not replace traditions:
    • While 61% of churches saw an increase in digital giving, cash and check contributions remained steady—proving that offering multiple ways to give encourages generosity without disrupting existing habits.
  • Larger churches lead the rebound, but small and mid-sized churches show strong digital momentum:
    • 63% of large churches reported an increase in overall giving, while small churches led in recurring giving growth and mid-sized churches drove the largest digital giving gains.

Churches That Simplify Giving See More Generosity

The report finds that churches who integrate giving with their church management tools create the strongest culture of generosity. Surveyed churches using all-in-one giving and management solutions were 40% more likely to see an increase in giving. In addition, 64% of churches on Ministry Brands’ platform reported digital giving growth, compared to just 45% of churches using other systems.

“The data is clear—when churches make giving seamless and accessible, their communities respond with generosity,” said Chris Bacon, CEO of Ministry Brands. “Recurring giving and digital wallets remove barriers to giving and create more opportunities for people to support the mission of their church.”

The Path Forward: Empowering Churches to Inspire Generosity

The 2025 State of Church Giving Report serves as a guide for church leaders seeking to equip their ministries for the future. With recurring giving and digital wallets already proving their impact, churches that make giving more accessible and intentional will be better positioned to sustain their ministries, serve their communities and inspire lifelong generosity.
