UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / February 12, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who has honored Brian Theory for his expertise in software development. Mr. Theory is a lead software engineer supporting NASA's ArcJet facilities. For the past 22 years, he has parlayed his mathematics and computer science background into making advancements in the technology sector.

Mr. Theory is also a STEM education advocate, author and artist. His personal and professional journey has taken him from contributing to future space missions to developing a mathematical model of self-awareness.
Early Life and Epiphany
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mr. Theory hails from a traditional Christian upbringing. However, in 2008, he experienced a profound shift in perspective. "I had an epiphany that self-awareness wasn't necessarily something granted by God," he says. This realization led him to question his prior religious beliefs.
"It started to make more sense to me that maybe it's more like the reason we're self-aware is not by being granted something. It's because we believe we're self-aware," Mr. Theory shares. This introspection ignited a passion for understanding the human mind through a scientific lens.
Academic Pursuits and International Ventures
Mr. Theory's quest for knowledge led him to California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, earning a bachelor's degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics. Eager to broaden his horizons, he participated in an undergraduate research program at Technische Universität Berlin in 2006. This experience introduced him to the Erasmus program, culminating in his enrollment in the Erasmus Mundus ALGANT program.
Mr. Theory transitioned from computer science to earning a master's degree in pure mathematics while studying in Italy, India and the Netherlands. His master's thesis in Padova, Italy, focused on modeling the unconscious mind using p-Adic Ultrametric Fields. This research reflects his deep-seated interest in the mathematical foundations of consciousness.
Professional Milestones
Mr. Theory's professional career is as diverse as his academic background. At NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he contributed to deploying an adaptive hyperspectral compression algorithm on the International Space Station.
As a computational neuroscientist at Palo Alto University, Mr. Theory employed deep learning techniques to innovate psychometrics in anxiety and depression diagnostics.
In 2024, Mr. Theory co-authored "Item Retention as a Feature Selection Task: Developing Abbreviated Measures Using Shapley Values." Six years prior, he wrote "Correspondence Matrices; Algorithms for Propositional Logic."
At NASA Ames Research Center, Mr. Theory serves as the software engineering lead for the development of a state-of-the-art data acquisition system for heat shield testing facilities.
Mr. Theory is a groundbreaker in mathematical modeling. As a highly skilled engineer, he developed Correspondence Matrices and Propositional Logical Topologies. These projects aim to model concepts like quantum symmetry breaking with superimposed logic. The work explores how asymmetries might underpin the development of self-awareness. He established B-Theory to become a repository for his mathematical endeavors as he investigates the ideas of "Being" and "Becoming."
Merging his passion for mathematics and art, Mr. Theory created a technique for generating fractal art that encodes hidden messages. Through his Fractile startup and B-Theory.com platform, he inspires children to pursue STEM careers.
Philosophy and Personal Life
Mr. Theory embodies the philosophy, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
A dedicated vegetarian and vegan for the last 18 years, Mr. Theory emphasizes ethical living. His work on self-awareness has led him to recognize that many animals possess varying levels of self-awareness, which reinforces his commitment to veganism.
In the next five years, Mr. Theory aims to promote mathematical art in the startup world and create a successful science lab focused on theoretical mathematics and computation. The ultimate goal is to inspire others in STEM, pursue forward-thinking projects, and spur them along their own journeys toward "Being" and "Becoming."
